Final Thoughts

After 4 weeks of using the products, overall I like them. Are these products super special? I don’t think so. However, the Face Wash, Walnut Scrub, Eye Cream, and Vitamin C Serum would be worth your money. I’m definitely going to repurchase the Face Wash and the Eye Cream. 

I’m not going to repurchase the Moisturizer and Vanilla Milk Toner. The moisturizer is not bad at all, but since it’s not special either I don’t think it’s necessary and I have other products I love more. Even though, I ended up liking the toner a bit more I still don’t think I need another one.

It’s definitely not a bad first launch but it’s not spectacular either. I can’t wait to see more products from Kylie Skin in the future! I wrote a review on the Kylie Skin Coconut Body Lotion and Scrub if you fancy a read.

Step 4: Vitamin C Serum, $28

Vitamin C is one ingredient that every skin expert loves and it’s one of the most powerful antioxidants on the shelves. Vitamin C helps brighten your complexion, and even out skin tone. Not only does the serum contain this key ingredient, but it also features camellia leaf extract and safflower oil to hydrate and replenish the skin.

We really like the texture of this serum; it glides onto the skin and sinks in quickly. We used one pump of this every morning (vitamin C can help boost the efficacy of SPF) to help protect our skin during the day, and although after just a couple of weeks we didn’t notice a huge difference, our skin was looking a little less dull. However, the packaging does recommend using it morning and night, so you may see better results with increased use. We also wish the 20ml bottle contained a little more serum (the standard is 30ml) as with twice-daily use this will finish more rapidly.

Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Face Sunscreen

An invisible face sunscreen that not only protects your face from UVA and UVB rays, it also helps moisturize the skin. It’s silky to the touch and lightweight. You’ll need to apply it at least 15 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply every 2 hours. It also only ships to the US.

Key Ingredients: Meadowfoam estolide, shea butter, Himanthialia Elongata Extract, Laminaria Hyperborea Extract, and Vitamin E

My Thoughts: This is the best face sunscreen I’ve used so far! I love that it’s invisible and does not leave a white cast on the face. It’s also silky smooth, sort of like a silicone primer, but it’s not heavy and doesn’t feel like it’s clogging my pores. There’s no scent and one of the best thing about this sunscreen is that it’s reef safe as well. It applies well under makeup – I don’t even need to use a primer! Now, the absolute biggest downside to this, is that the sunscreen is not zinc oxide or titanium dioxide based (which are the only 2 ingredients that the FDA deems safe and effective as they do not disrupt your hormones or penetrate the skin). The Kyle Skin Face Sunscreen has high percentages of avobenzone, homosalate, octocrylene, and octisalate (read more on the toxicity of sunscreen ingredients or you can do your own research). I got a little too excited about this product without first checking the active ingredients and have another in backstock. But once I finish it, I have some other safer sunscreens in mind to use and will review!

Verdict: No – purely because it doesn’t have safe active ingredients. It’s such a shame because everything else about it is perfect. I hope the active ingredient will be improved in the future.

Makeup Removing Wipes

These makeup removing wipes/towelettes come in a pack of 30 and removes dirt, makeup, and oil from the skin.

Key Ingredients: Aloe leaf extract, chamomile, cucumber extract, oat kernel extract, glycerin and vitamin E

My Thoughts: It had a light, decent scent. But the wipes were quite dry to me and because of that, I did have to wipe my makeup a little harder than normal to remove it. I also wasn’t able to remove all of my makeup. There was still residue compared to other makeup wipes I’ve used. It definitely will not work for waterproof makeup. The wipe itself however, was a good thickness.

Verdict: Not for me! Will not repurchase, there are much better makeup removing wipes out there.

The moisturizer is super hydrating and nourishing and contains shea butter, sodium hyaluronate (aka hyaluronic acid), and glycerin (a humectant that draws moisture into the skin). It also packs antioxidants in the form of banana leaf, oat bran, and orange peel extract. The formula is also fragrance-free, so we did notice a slight pharmaceutical scent.

After trying the moisturizer consistently for a week, our skin was undoubtedly softer. The formula is quite rich, so if you have dry to normal skin this is perfect. Alternatively, it would be a great moisturizer for the winter months as it’s super hydrating. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, we’d suggest giving it a miss as it contains so many rich ingredients.

Step 3: Vanilla Milk Toner, $22

We instantly loved the idea of a hydrating milk toner. The formula is packed with hydrating ingredients like squalane, glycerin, jojoba seed oil, avocado oil, and apricot kernel oil to name a few. Interestingly, the milk toner was one of the few products that had a noticeable scent, and it really did smell good. This was definitely one of our fave products; we loaded up a cotton pad and it applied really well and felt luxurious on the skin. However, this isn’t the type of toner that will make a dramatic difference to your skin, although it is very hydrating and leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth. The formula is also very rich, so we wouldn’t recommend it for acne-prone skin as it could be too heavy.

Kylie Skin Walnut Face Scrub Review 

The Walnut Face Scrub could be your new fav exfoliant buddy. With walnut powder and other natural ingredients like orange, lemon, and ginseng extracts, this skin-exfoliating scrub is prepared to buff and moisturize simultaneously.

The Broad Spectrum SPF Face Sunscreen has got to be a bestseller because sun protection is key. It’s an easy step to forget about, but is super important, not just for your appearance but also your health. With that in mind, this Kylie Skin sunscreen is equipped with SPF 40 power.

Formulated specifically for your face, it isn’t greasy and won’t create a breeding ground for clogged pores and acne. It’s lightweight, fragrance-free, and non-comedogenic. 

The star ingredients here are shea butter, Vitamins A, C, and E, and kiwi seed oil. These pieces come together to deliver a UVA and UVB-protection potion that is kind and considerate of your skin’s moisture levels.

The brand recommends reapplying this sunscreen every 2 hours for full protection. At a steep price of $28, we’d better hope that it does a good job of protecting and nourishing your skin since you can find higher-SPF lotions at the drugstore for much cheaper.

Walnut Face Scrub

This scrub caused a little bit of disturbance when it came out as it is made with walnut and it’s said that it is too harsh and abrasive for the skin. But there’s been tests done where apparently this scrub will not harm the skin with its physical exfoliant. It’s best to use this scrub once a week to buff away dead skin cells and extra dirt from the skin. But avoid using this if you have an open wound on the skin.

Key Ingredients: Exfoliating fine walnut powder and botanical blend of fruit extracts, squalane and sodium hyaluronate

My Thoughts: I was hesitant on using this, but because of the good reviews, I thought I’d give it a try. The walnut scrub wasn’t as harsh as I thought it’d be and it actually left my skin very smooth and soft after.

Verdict: Not for me! It’s a good scrub as it works, but I wouldn’t repurchase. There are other scrubs I prefer that are sugar based and probably safer for the skin despite all the testing.

Deze zachte, alcoholvrije face toner helpt de huid te hydrateren. Hij is samengesteld met avocado-olie, kiwi-olie en appelextract voor een natuurlijke hydratatie. De toner kalmeert de huid en helpt deze te herstellen. Daarnaast belooft de toner ook de huid te zuiveren, ontstoppen en te minimaliseren van de poriën.

Op de producten wordt niet duidelijk aangegeven voor welk type huid het is, dus ik ga er maar vanuit dat de producten voor ieder type huid geschikt is. De werking klinkt ook vrij basic, in de zin van iedereen heeft hier wel iets aan.

De verpakkingen vind ik echt prachtig en luxe overkomen. De doosjes hebben een soft touch en de verpakkingen zijn gemaakt van roze plastic.

Op de achterkant vind je nog wat meer informatie over het product en de ingrediëntenlijst.

De fles zelf is vrij standaard, maar doordat hij niet transparant is vind ik het meteen een luxe uitstraling geven. De verpakking heeft een inhoud van 236 ml wat normaal is.

Zoals ik al zei ruikt de toner ontzettend lekker, heel fris en clean. Ook is de toner wat dikker, met een melk te vergelijken. Ik breng het aan op een wattenschijfje en veeg het daarna over mijn gezicht.

Ik merk dat mijn gezicht er heel erg goed op reageert. Het voelt meteen schoon en soepel aan. Ook neemt de toner goed de laatste restjes vuil mee. De toner trekt snel in, laat geen vervelend laagje achter en mijn gezicht voelt heel erg fijn aan. Een van de fijnste toners die ik in tijden heb gebruikt. Hij is erg mild en ook perfect voor de gevoelige huid denk ik!

Is Kylie Skin Worth It?

After all this, we’ve determined that Kylie Skin might be worth it depending on your skincare needs. Everyone has different reactions to skincare products, so it is far from a one-size-fits-all situation. 

If you have normal skin—no skin conditions or abnormal amount of acne—you might love the products, especially if you care about natural, vegan, cruelty-free ingredients.

Be warned about the extremely negative reviews of customer service. We recommend purchasing from Ulta or elsewhere other than the brand site for more reliable delivery and return policies.

If you need to treat acne or other skincare concerns, look for a brand that is specially formulated for that type of concern because Kylie Skin is not especially geared towards treating blemishes. 

The best thing to do is to consult a dermatologist if possible, so you can get tailored recommendations.

Step 2: Walnut Scrub, $22

Ahh yes, the super controversial walnut scrub! Before this product was even released, the industry went crazy over the use of walnuts, which many skincare brands avoid due to the increased risk of over-exfoliation. Walnut shells cannot be ground to be completely smooth, they have a jagged edge and therefore could risk scratching and over-exfoliating your skin – hence, all the drama!

In the name of beauty, of course, we tried it! The result? Well, we didn’t break out, and our face definitely didn’t feel terrible! We used this scrub as gently as we could, and while some of us were left a little pink, some of us simply loved the smooth result. Ultimately, if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, we wouldn’t recommend using this. If you do want to give it a go, be as gentle as possible and don’t use it more often than twice a week. Our personal preference when it comes to exfoliators is chemical exfoliators.

We’ve looked at the products, the ingredients, and the prices. But what about how the brand’s skincare actually fares in the real world. We turned to customer reviews from their official website, the Better Business Bureau (BBB), TrustPilot, and Sitejabber for all the deets.

The brand’s site reviews are overwhelmingly happy, happy, and happy about the products. All the products in this Kylie Skin review were rated at least 4.3/5 stars. Just check out all the star ratings below:

Customers had high praise for the products. Even the packaging of the products received compliments from customers who loved the overall presentation and aesthetic of the brand. 

And they also had great things to say about the products themselves, providing noticeable results for them:

Impressive, right? One customer who called the Skin Set a must-have even said that they’ve “Been to a couple different dermatologists and have never found something this good for my skin until this set!”

Before we go full steam ahead on the hype train, this Kylie Skin review has to give you the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, including external testimonials.

Firstly, the brand isn’t accredited by BBB, though you should know that Kylie Cosmetics is. Some of that trustworthiness might transfer over to your opinion of Kylie Skin by association. 

Complaints from customers were about poor customer service; the cruel no-returns, no-refunds policy; and packages just straight-up not arriving at all.

One customer’s unfortunate tale of frustrating customer service began when they placed an order that was never fulfilled—no order number, no shipment, nadda. They placed a second order, and then:

“I looked on my account today and it says both orders were now canceled as of May 1st, 2020. I have paid for the product in full and going back and forth with them, I am not receiving a resolution, just a different problem everyday.”

On TrustPilot, the stories are similar. The overall star rating is a lousy 2.8/5 stars from 316 reviews. The minority of positive reviews complimented “high quality” products and noticeable results with skin feeling more “refreshed, tighter and clearer.” 

Customers also loved the overall “professional approach” of the brand, and some even argued against the crowd of negative reviews, reporting that they found the customer service to be great and had their products delivered quickly and without issues.

Meanwhile, several negative reviews were critical of bad customer service that gave one person a “9-10 week shipping estimate,” didn’t deliver products, and refused to refund damaged products despite the customer sending a photo of proof.

Reviews concerning the quality of the products themselves shared common threads, too. One was that the Foaming Face Wash “turned brown” as early as “4 days” after delivery.

Others said the products actually caused acne or irritation on their face, and a customer with sensitive skin had this to say about their unhappy skin’s reaction:

“It also left my neck and upper chest super itchy. The walnut scrub was too harsh, I have sensitive skin, I use it now on my arms as legs to exfoliate.”

Lastly, check out the reviews on Sitejabber and you’ll find more of the same. Though this site only has 61 reviews, the rating is 1.2/5 stars. 55 reviews were 1-star!

The negative reviews claimed that the “quality is totally absurd instead of the price to pay,” citing the irritation experienced by some. One customer said their “skin has become scary” after using the products and turning their face an unflattering shade of red.

Overall, the positives that the brand’s customers raved about were noticeable results of more moisturized, soft, glowing, clear skin and fast shipping. The negative reviews ranged from poor customer service to damaged skin post-Kylie Jenner skin care.

Our Final Verdict

The Kylie Skin range has your basic skin routine covered (although don’t forget SPF!), and we like that this range makes skincare feel easy. The website also has a helpful guide of when to use the products. Our favorite products are the face wash and moisturizer; they’re simple and packed with hydrating ingredients (although they might not work for all skin types).

This is definitely a hydrating skincare routine so it’s a good all-rounder, but it won’t address any tricky skin concerns and it’s probably better suited to teens and 20s and normal to combo skin types. We’re looking forward to seeing what Kylie adds to the line, and hoping to see a face SPF, a pimple treatment, and a face mask that will get us ready for the ‘gram!

Vitamin C Serum

This Vitamin C Serum is supposed to deeply moisturize the top layers of the skin as well as brighten and give your skin a healthy-looking glow and diminish dullness.

Key Ingredients: Like the eye cream, it has a potent form of Vitamin C (ethyl ascorbic acid and tetrahexydecyl ascorbate), glycerin and safflower seed oil

My Thoughts: Rather than a watery serum, this was a bit milkier/creamier. It has a very light natural scent that most Vitamin C serums (with little to no fragrance) smells like? It’s hard to explain the scent, but it does not bother me at all. It is very smooth to apply. And the best part is it that it works! I saw results in less than a week – acne scars lessened, and my skin was brighter and less dull.

Verdict: It’s a buy! Definitely will repurchase. Give me that glow!

You’ll find a variety of key ingredients used throughout the Kylie Skin collection, but we did notice that there are a few key ingredients that are used in almost all of the Kylie Skin care products. A few examples of those ingredients include coconut oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, and vitamin C. Let’s take a closer look at these key ingredients and how they may benefit your skin.

Coconut oil is used in several Kyle Skin products — such as the Kylie Skin Coconut Body Lotion and Sunscreen Oil — which is great because coconut oil offers many benefits to the skin. Coconut oil contains between 80 and 90% saturated fat and, therefore, is very stable even when exposed to heat and oxygen. According to a publication in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, topical application of coconut oil helps to strengthen the skin barrier, promotes faster wound healing, and even protects the skin from UV radiation.

Shea butter is another key ingredient that is used in almost all Kylie Skin care products, including the Kylie Skin Eye Cream, Face Moisturizer, both sunscreens, and more. Shea butter contains a mix of both saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. The rich supply of triglycerides and fatty acids in shea butter help to replenish the skin’s natural barrier function. Shea butter functions as an emollient that works to soften and soothe the skin. Since shea butter melts at body temperature, it is able to coat the skin and form an occlusive film. This film helps to prevent evaporation of the skin’s natural moisture and increases skin hydration by causing buildup of water in the stratum corneum (the uppermost layer of skin).

Another key ingredient that you’ll find in Kylie Skin care products is jojoba oil. Jojoba oil contains mostly long-chain fatty acid esters (97%), but also contains small amounts of vitamins, minerals, triglycerides, phospholipids, and tocopherols. Jojoba oil can benefit all skin types because the chemical composition of jojoba oil mimics the skin’s natural sebum more closely than any other oil. Research has shown that jojoba oil improves the skin’s barrier function and helps to prevent transepidermal water loss. It also has proven anti-inflammatory effects and can provide soothing effects upon application. Overall, the use of jojoba oil in Kylie Skin care products helps promote softer, healthier, and better hydrated skin.

Vitamin C is the key ingredient in the Kylie Skin Vitamin C Serum, but it’s also used in the Kylie Skin Eye Cream. The form of vitamin C that is used is a fat-soluble vitamin C derivative called tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. It is believed that this form of vitamin C can penetrate the skin better than other water-soluble forms because its fatty acid component helps aid penetration. Once inside the skin, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is converted to ascorbic acid (the active form of vitamin C). Ascorbic acid is a potent antioxidant, acts as a coenzyme for enzymes involved in collagen synthesis, and inhibits the synthesis of melanin. According to the Indian Dermatology Online Journal, clinical studies have shown that the topical use of ascorbic acid increases collagen production in both young and aged human skin. Due to these actions, ascorbic acid is able to improve radiance and skin texture while diminishing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet.

Step 5: Eye Cream, $20

The eye cream received rave reviews online and when we saw the ingredient list we were excited. Boasting vitamin E, C, caffeine, green tea extract, shea butter, jojoba seed oil, and pomegranate extract; it’s a beauty junkie dream list. The formula is very thick and creamy, as is typical of some eye creams, however, it could be a bit too heavy for some skin types, and would probably suit mature or dry skin best. As the formula is very thick, it didn’t sink into our skin easily, and there was a slight stinging sensation when we first applied it, although this wasn’t long-lasting. It’s not our fave eye cream, but it’s very hydrating.

Clear Complexion Correction Stick

The Clear Complexion Correction Stick is a gel serum that gently exfoliates acne and blemishes, blackheads and whiteheads. It also helps improve the skin texture in those areas and is great for combination and oily skin. You can also apply this up to 3 times a day.

Key Ingredients: Salicylic acid (BHA: Beta Hydroxy Acid) & Glycolic Acid (AHA: Alpha Hydroxy Acid) and witch hazel

My Thoughts: First off, the Kylie Skin Clear Complexion Correction Stick comes in a liquid lipstick or lip gloss type of packaging. For using something that is supposed to be for clean skin and to get rid of blemishes, I personally don’t like that you use this to touch on the targeted spot and put it back in the tube. You also can’t apply “too much” as the product starts peeling/rubbing off on the skin and looks like you have flaky skin when it’s more than a couple passes over a blemish. It applies well under makeup once you’ve let it dry and if you don’t overuse it. In terms of effectiveness, it does help reduce pimples but it takes a few days. It will slowly minimize the blemish but it didn’t seem to take it away completely. This may be good for someone who has very mild blemishes.

So, yeah, you could totally buy hand sanitizer from the drugstore for cheaper, but it wouldn’t be the Kylie Skin Hand Sanitizer. For $7, you’re paying extra for the adorable pink spray bottle with Kylie’s name on it.

It comes in a pretty small yet quite chic 2 fl oz bottle, but it dries fast and non-sticky (thank god for that) with a glycerin formula that helps prevent the dryness that comes from being hygienic and having to sanitize and wash your feelers all the time. 

With 80% alcohol, it sanitizes your hands and cleans the germs right off. It’s also vegan, fragrance-free, sulfate-free, and dermatologist-tested, so what’s not to love?

Hydrating Face Mask

This creamy hydrating face mask moisturizers, soothes, and nourishes the skin. You can apply this mask 2-3 times a week for 10-15 minutes at a time, or leave it on overnight for extra hydration.

Key Ingredients: Shea butter, niacinamide (Vitamin B3), and Vitamin E

My Thoughts: It feels like a thicker moisturizer when I apply it, so it’s definitely hydrating. When I woke up in the morning my face felt soft and more plump. I did feel a slight residue/thickness as well, but that’s to be expected as you are supposed to wash it off in the morning.

Verdict: It’s a buy! It’s great if you need extra hydration or have dry skin. I think this face mask may work better for me during the winter when my skin is more dry. I used this in the spring so I might not have seen as big of a difference as I wanted. Would definitely try this mask again when my skin is drier!
